Replacing What Was Lost Along The Way
By middle school, this young person had already experienced several foster home placements. With each move, more of their belongings disappeared until they were left with only a few clothes that fit. For a child who has already lost so much, even everyday items can become another reminder of instability. Children in foster care often move multiple times, and each transition can mean leaving behind treasured possessions, clothing, and a sense of security.
The Friends of Foster Children were able to provide some new clothes of their own choosing. What looked like a simple shopping trip restored something much bigger: confidence, dignity, and the chance to walk into school feeling like they belonged.
Time and again, we see that stability and having basic needs met are closely linked to better emotional well-being and school success.
Supporting Families Through Reunification
In late 2025, the Friends of Foster Children helped make reunification possible for a family of three.
When two children were reunited with their father, the Department of Social Services was able to provide beds, but the apartment was otherwise empty. The Friends of Foster Children furnished the family’s home with a futon, table and chairs, school clothes, and toiletries—giving the children a place to eat, do homework, and begin their new life together as a reunified family. The family is now rebuilding their lives together after the children spent two and a half years in foster care.

Guardian Ad Litem Requests For Their Foster Child

Companies or individuals sponsor a month — surprising each foster child who has a birthday that month with a gift.

Backpacks
Backpacks filled with school supplies help children in foster care start the school year ready to learn.
For a child who may have changed schools more than once, showing up with the same new supplies as everyone else means one less thing that sets them apart.
Christmas Gifts
At the holidays, we make sure children in foster care have gifts to open — chosen with each child in mind.
Many of these children spend the holidays away from their families. A gift picked out just for them says someone was thinking of them.
